DRYWALL- In Indonesia drywall is better known as plasterboard or gypsum board. In English, it is called drywalls.
In the modern era like today, this construction is increasingly in demand because it has many advantages over conventional walls (concrete or brick).
The installation is also more often intended as partitions for various applications such as office cubicles, insulating between spaces in homes, hotels, hospitals, apartments, schools, cinemas, to art museums.
This is the advantage of dry walls over ordinary walls that have been commonly applied.
1. Dry construction
Compared to ordinary brick walls, drywall does not require water in its installation, so it is more efficient and will not leave traces of scattered cement mortar.
2. Time efficiency
Because the drywall installation process is very concise and practical, the construction of a house does not take long. In fact, the process can be three to four times faster and does not require a lot of manpower.
But unfortunately, the use of gypsum boards in the country for both ceilings and partition walls is still lower than compared the neighboring country, Singapore.
3. Light texture
Drywall can be eight to 10 times lighter than a brick wall. For high-rise vertical buildings such as apartments, assessing the use of drywall is very helpful because it can reduce the volume of construction loads.
“According to one study, drywall can save structural costs by as much as 15 percent,” says Hantman.
4. Flexible
Not only lightweight, but the gypsum board is also very flexible in creating and dividing space as needed, so as to maximize the area.
5. Excellent performance
Brick walls require a fantastic thickness to muffle the sound. But not so with drywall.
Not only that, but drywall apparently also has fire resistance, some can even withstand up to four hours. So, when a fire occurs, residents have enough time to save themselves or vacate the premises.
Meanwhile, the opinion is that brick walls are weak in terms of insulation -the use of materials with low conductance values to reduce the flow of energy through the material-, because in the event of a fire brick walls are susceptible to heat and smoke leakage.
6. Aesthetic Appeal
Similar to brick walls, drywall also gives its own aesthetic value to the interior. Moreover, the surface is smooth, smooth, and free from cracks, suitable for any decoration style. Either paint drywall, or wallpaper, or plaster it with ceramic tiles.
7. Eco-friendly
Drywall is a recycled green product from environmentally friendly materials. The material is also water-free, thereby saving the use of valuable natural resources. No wonder Singapore adopts this product for new buildings.
